MAN vs. FOOD Goes For World Record
The Travel Channel’s Adam Richman Makes an Attempt at the Guinness World Record for Largest Hamburger Ever Eaten
I’m sure all of you loyal fans of www.tvchannelsfree.com remember the write up in our blog a few weeks ago about the Travel Channel’s hit TV show Man Vs. Food, a reality show which follows around champion “gurgitator” Adam Richman. Adam Richman is a man who has described himself as “a self educated food expert” and Man Vs. Food is a TV show which follows him to a different city each episode exploring the local delicacies that can only be described as “extreme eating.” Contrary to the Travel Channel’s other “extreme eating” reality TV show host, Andrew Zimmern, Adam Richman doesn’t travel the globe seeking out the food that is just plain weird and sometimes scary (hence the title of Zimmern’s show, Bizarre Foods). Rather, Adam Richman travels to cities and towns here in the United States and eats food that looks pretty tasty to your average person (myself included)…except that the portions are usually outrageous. Some examples include Richman tackling a 3lb burrito in San Antonio, TX and a curry in New York City that is so hot, the man who prepares it has to wear a gas mask in the kitchen! I’m not joking…look it up in the episodes guide if you don’t believe me, or just watch the show.
Even for a guy who is famous for eating outrageously large portions, this last episode (which took place in Detroit, MI) takes the proverbial cake. While in Detroit, Adam Richman visits a seemingly innocent looking family restaurant called Mallie’s, which currently holds the Guinness Book of World Records title for the restaurant with biggest commercially available hamburger on its menu. This monster, known as “The Absolutely Ridiculous Burger,” weighs in at a whopping 190 pounds!!! That’s right, a one hundred and ninety pound cheeseburger!!!
By now I’m sure most of you are thinking “that is in no way possible” but it exists…I’m telling you, I’ve seen it! I also know what most of you who watch this show are probably thinking…something like, “190lbs? That’s right around Adam Richman’s own body weight in hamburger! That is suicidal!” and you would be correct. However, for the first time in the (albeit short) history of Man Vs. Food, this is the only challenge where our host recruits an entire team of Detroit locals (40 in all) including members of the Detroit Police and Fire Departments, the Detroit Derby Girls, some United Auto Workers, the Plymouth Wolverines (a local football team), the Motor City Metal Jackets (a local hockey team), some local wrestlers, and last but not least a Detroit-based KISS tribute band called War Machine.
The team of 40 burger warriors gets 2 hours to devour the behemoth 190lb burger but sadly, by the time the 2 hours is up the team only manages to get through about 160lbs so no Guinness World Record for our intrepid host and his team of burger maniacs.
