JAMES MAY ON THE MOON
BBC Sends Top Gear’s “Captain Slow” To NASA…Then To Outer Space!
Most of you out there may remember the recent www.tvchannelsfree.com write up on the BBC’s hit TV show, Top Gear…a show which despite being one of the single most popular TV shows watched internationally, hasn’t really managed to catch on in the same way with the American audience.
You can almost kind of think about it as “the ‘Soccer’ of TV”…bigger than life in just about every country on planet Earth but…save a few loyal followers, is mostly non-existent here in the United States.
In case you haven’t read our previous Top Gear post, I’ll give you the BBC’s own official summary of the show to bring you up to speed (no pun intended):
“Top Gear takes extraordinary and ordinary cars to the limit and beyond to find out if they’re half as good as manufacturers claim. Full of extreme stunts, challenges, celebrity appearances and weekly features, “Top Gear” is far more than a car show; you’ll find no boring stats or impenetrable conversations about camshafts here. It’s the sharp wit of hosts Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May that make it more than just a motor show.
”Top Gear” has won a BAFTA, multiple NTAs and an International Emmy Award, in addition to being one of the most illegally downloaded shows on the Internet.”
The show has done some pretty amazing things, such as making a rocket-powered MINI Cooper and an amphibious Toyota HiLux Pickup (I’m not making this up…check the episode index) in its current iteration (hosts Hammond, Clarkson, and May) which has been on since 2002. However, this month, the top brass at Top Gear has literally expanded the show into another world…they will be launching Top Gear host James May (ironically referred to as “Captain Slow” by the other 2 hosts) into space with a team of real NASA Astronauts. Here’s the BBC’s official write-up on this amazing special:
“It’s been forty years since the Apollo 11 mission first put man on the moon. This month BBC America Reveals celebrates space exploration with three new specials giving us access to all aspects of the ’space age’ — from James May getting insight on the astronaut experience to learning what life was like for the women behind the first men in space.
Top Gear’s James May experiences the space program first hand as he takes a ride on the infamous, zero gravity “Vomit Comet” and endures bone-crushing gravitational forces of a simulated rocket launch. Along the way, he takes a look back at the heroes of the Apollo space program as they give their own personal accounts of their long journeys from being test pilots to flying to the moon.”
James May on the Moon premieres on BBC America November 10th at 8pm and will continue to run throughout the month of November. We here at www.tvchannels.com strongly recommend that you watch this special even you are not a fan of Top Gear…its just good TV, plain and simple.
And don’t forget to check back here every day for our little TV blog. Until tomorrow, keep watching and keep coming back to www.tvchannelsfree.com to watch episodes of all your favorite TV shows for free.
